We’re a week away from the beginning of the new year.
This is, of course, mostly symbolic with regard to individuals: there’s virtually nothing different between one day when it is 2019 and the next when it is 2020.
But symbolism is important. It helps us - it helps me - begin new things by providing easy-to-understand boundaries around timing of those things.
New Year’s Resolutions are the most common example of this. You’ve made them & you’ve probably broken them. Real change takes discipline and commitment, and if you don’t have both in abundance (or can at least resupply yourself at high frequency), those proclamations you made on January 1st lose meaning quickly.
I’m trying something different.
My resolutions this year will remain private to me & my emotional support scooter (pictured above). Once I reach a particular goal, I may share it.
Til then, my wish for you is to find your own better self & that you gain something from my writing.- jbminn
